The first masks are ready!
Covid-19 in Malawi
Covid-19 in Malawi. Daily new confirmed cases of covid-19 are registered in Malawi. Since June the first wave of covid-19 is real in Malawi. The number deaths is rising and the people slowly start to realize that covid-19 is real. The people are obligated to wear a face mask in public places. The penalty of not wearing a face mask in public places is around €11,00. Most people cannot pay this fine and end up in prison, where the change of contamination is even higher.
Situation in Phulanya
For the residents of Phulanya face masks are hard to get. Fortunately, many Malawian tailors switched to making face masks. A local pastor, who works during week days as a tailor, has made 200 reusable face masks for One Hope Malawi. Soon more will follow. It is good to see that this provided work for the local pastor and in this way he could provide for his family. Pastor Zitha was very excited that he could do this job for One Hope Malawi. He worked day and night to finish the face masks as soon as possible. The face masks will be distributed to the residents of Phulanya as soon as possible. This will help them to be able to go to town to sell their vegetables and fruits. Furthermore, it offers protection against covid-19 and brings more awareness that covid-19 is real and that we have to be careful.
