Interventions against hunger part 1: Distributing nutritious porridge
At the end of 2024, we raised funds due to the ongoing food shortages in our project area, Phulanya. With these donations, we can implement various interventions to combat hunger in Phulanya.
The first intervention is: Nutritious porridge for the youngest children in Phulanya.
Why This Project?
Many people in Phulanya suffer from hunger, and the youngest children—ages 0 to 5—are among the most vulnerable. Malnutrition has serious consequences for their growth and development. To give them a better start, a special project was launched: distributing nutritious porridge.
This porridge, made from a mix of highly absorbable, nutrient-rich grains, is easy to prepare with water and provides essential nourishment for young children. Since large quantities were needed, we partnered with the local hospital. With their help, we secured enough porridge to reach as many children as possible.
The Impact: More Than Just a Full Stomach
In early December, the porridge was distributed to preschool children. Their happy faces said it all (see previous page). For many, this meant they wouldn’t have to go hungry in the coming weeks.
But the impact went beyond that. The porridge distribution encouraged more children to attend school—and to keep coming back. The promise of a nutritious meal motivated them to be present every day, increasing their chances of a better future. In this way, a simple bowl of porridge became a powerful tool in the fight against both hunger and school absenteeism.
With this project, we’ve taken an important first step—a step toward a healthier, stronger generation of children in Phulanya.
