Hyper Inflation in Malawi
As Malawi eagerly awaits the elections in September this year, the hyper inflation is steadily worsening. Groceries have become so expensive that most people can’t afford to by the basic necessities.
Examples:
- A pack of toilet paper can easily cost 8 to 15 euro per 9 roles.
- A bottle of yoghurt costs at the moment around €8,50.
Even for us it is getting hard to buy the things that you need for a healthy and balanced diet. Many landlords have raised the rentals and people are forced to move to cheaper houses.
Extreme hunger in rural areas and townships are a result of the current economic situation in Malawi is what we see on daily basis. It is hard for us to witness this and it makes you to appreciate all the things we have.
We would like to ask you to pray for the current economic situation in the country and the upcoming elections.
